Tetra Safe Start????????????

I bought a bottle of the stuff. I just set up my fish tank today with no fish. I want to use the Safe Start but I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) the bacteria will need a source of Ammonia to feed on. So my question is, can I buy a bottle of pure ammonia and use that as the source?
