When the Sanhedrin asked Jesus if he was the Son of God, was his answer straightforward or evasive?

Jesus answered, "I am." That's why the leader tore his cloths and called Jesus a blasphemer. The leader was appalled to think someone would call Himself the Son of God. They, the Jews, are still waiting for the redeemer. Straightforward I would say. When Moses asked God's name God answered. "I am, that I am" God bless you.
